Familiar Faces

All of these folks look familiar, but this was long, long ago. Is that George and Bobby Bean's father? And how did they spell Bean with one e or two?

Girl With a Goat

This young lady embraces a goat; is this the same trip as in the previous post?

Three on a ?

These three beautiful young ladies rest on what appears to be a field trip. One is Amy, where was it taken?

Summer Fun

This young folks and a couple of dogs having been involved in sports or hiking or some outside activity; who is the coach or leader? I recognize Amy Jeffreys Bostick. Anyone know where this was taken?

Lee Farrar Bailey

Lee Farrar Bailey and his wife, Nicole Marie, will be in concert at the Link Centre Concert Hall this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Lee is the son of Dennis and obviously inherited his father's talent.

Mixed Group

Don't I spot a couple of Baptist among this group. Is that not Paul Johnson in the back, and can't tell but might be Ken Mitchell beside him.

Young Scholars

These young people with the assistance of their teacher have been studying, it would seem from the books on the table.

Art and Dirty Hands

Aw, isn't it fun to get hands dirty while being creative? That's one of the Willaims boys on the end, isn't it?

More Youth

Another shot of a group of well dressed young people. What is that structure seen over the heads of the two girls on the back row?

Jesus Loves the Little Children

Another Youth Group

I recognize one of the Williams boys, I think, and is the teacher Efie (sp) Mae Sumners?

The question which I phrased badly yesterday was this, while during the time most of these older pictures of youth were taken, I was not attending the Baptist Church on a regular basis, it seems that the Methodist Church had more youth in attendance than I remember from the Baptist Church. If there were more youth enrolled at the Methodist Church that would be usually for a small Mississippi town. Perhaps, I just didn't notice the younger folks who were attending the Baptist Church. However, as I think of the friends in my class, Winnie, Larry, Tim, Mary Katherine, George Beane were members of the Methodist Church while Butch, Mary Ellen and I were the only ones who attended Plantersville Baptist, if memory serves and these days it often doesn't.

June Harris from my class attended Plantersville Baptist until her family moved out west in the early 1950s, I'm fairly certain.

Sunday Dresses

These young ladies are dressed in their Sunday finest.

Methodist Youth

In most small towns in Mississippi Baptists outnumber Methodists; I wonder if that was the case in Plantersville at the time this picture was taken; seems to me, there are a lot of young people attending the Methodist Church.

Youth Class

Who is teaching this class, and let's identify all these young folks; I think I recognize a Williams or two.

Men's Class

Does anyone know what year this picture was taken and can you help in identifying these men?

Precious Children

Charlotte identified these beautiful young children in a previous post; I think several of them might have a special place in Charlotte's heart.

Another View

Church View

A view of the church.

Preparing the Food

Several ladies are preparing food for serving.

I've attended the Christmas Eve Service in the fellowship hall at Plantersville Baptist a couple of times in the past five years; however, during the time I regularly attended church in Plantersville, which would be during the 40s and 50s, I don't think either church had the facalities for food service; other than crackers and grape juice during the Lord's Supper and snacks during Bible School, I don't recall any food being served. I do recall dinners on the ground, or rather on chicken wire streched between trees, at Unity.

When did the Methodist and Baptist Churches acquire the facalities for food service?

Couple's Class

Is this a couple's class? I think I can identify about half of them, but will give you a shot at putting names to faces.

Smiling Young Man

Who is this young man with the nice smile?

Ready to be Creative

These folks seem to be ready to put the scissors and other materials to some creative use.

Olden Days

From the shape of some of the faces, I would guess some of these ladies are Grant or Towerys, but that's just a guess. I wonder what year this picture was taken.

Ladies Outside

All of these ladies look familiar; however, Mrs. Pruitt and Mrs. Borden are the only two I think I can identify.

Ladies' Class

I believe Mrs. Pruitt and Mrs. Borden are among the members of this class; will need help with the others.

Sunny Day

This gentlemen prepares to enter church on what appears by the shadows to be a very sunny day.

Charlotte, I thought that was Mr. Mack, but with my eye sight and the shadows on the picture I wasn't certain.

Group Outside the Church

I recognize Doris Coggin, Monteze (sp) Temple, Gene Monts, Boyce McFarling, Junior McWhorter, Thomas Williams, Buddy Partlow and one of the Parkers; would have to guess at the rest.

After I left Plantersville for college in 1958, I saw Buddy and Boyce at their stores, Gene Monts at Cecil's and Thomas Williams at the church. As mentioned in a previous post, Junior McWhorter farmed our land for several years and I saw him often; some of the others in this picture I probably last saw in the mid to late 50s.

That's All Folks

That completes our pictures of Halloween at the Methodist Church. Thanks to Rodney, Charlotte and Amy. Let's hope Charlotte and Amy and others will identify all these young folks, and how many Halloweens are represented in these pictures?
