Summer in Plantersville was not complete without trips to the Tulip Creek swimming pool. We had to walk there on the railroad and over at least one tressel to reach our swimming place.

Keith Wadley

Cathy and I (Cathy has done most of the work), opened a new blog site; we have recycled some pictures and recollections from our old sites, and added a few new comments. There is an excellent new essay by Keith Wadley, son of Lisa, and grandson of Tommy and Sandra.

I would love for Keith to share his memories of Plantersville on this site and to send any pictures he might have.

Ladies's Section (Primarily)

Except for a couple of exceptions, this section of the gym's porch seems to have been reserved for the ladies.

Carole Kelly took this picture and wrote the cutline: "Rep. Steve Holland visits the Mississippi Chronic Illness Coalition exhibit at the Capitol Rotunda in March and helps showcase the sponsor."

As best as Steve and I can ascertain, Steve and my grandfather, John Green Kelly who served from 1936-1940, are the only representatives from Plantersville to have served in the House.

A Buzz

Can't you just heard the buzz from all these young people.

Girls Basketball

When I was in high school girls played three on three basketball with the three defensive players not being able to score. It looks as if these girls are playing a more open game.

Any of you girl basketball players remember when high school girl's basketball teams began to play the full court game?

Larry and George in Jail

Cecil took us to Memphis to Rickwood Park to watch the Chicks play and to the zoo at Overton Park. This picture of Larry Mims and me is the only photograph I have from my association with Cecil.

Class of 1957

Tupelo High School's class of 1957 held a reunion this past weekend. Wanda and Gene Williams were both members of this class. Wanda is pictured fourth from the left. Dianne Francis and Margie Parker were also in this class. Were there any others from Plantersville? The 1957 graduating class was the first after the demise of Plantersville High School.

June Coggin Turns 90

Gloria sent the following:

"Mr. June Coggin will turn 90 on July 2nd. Due to scheduling conflicts, we cannot have his party on July 1st so it will be at the home of Steve and Gloria Holland on Sunday, July 8th, probably from 2-4 p.m. I would love for any and everyone that would like to come to feel free to do so, but if that is not possible if anyone would like to send a card or note please address to him c/o Gloria Holland, 247 Old Planters Road, Plantersville, MS 38862. Please don't send them too soon because I could easily put them up for safe keeping and forget where I put them. Thanks to all."

She Shoots, She Scores

During my formative years, Cecil taught us baseball and toward the end of my teen years, tennis; neither of which I played well. We never played football or basketball in his yard. Basketball was the only sport where I displayed any aptitude, though not much, but would love to have had the opportunity to play basketball at Cecil's.
