Hello from Orange Beach; lots of sand and sun though right now it is storming. June Harris made it back to Texas. Hope all the others who had to travel long distances arrived safely as well.

Before I leave for Orange Beach, I will post a few pictures. Watch for more in a week. I think I will have access to the Internet and hope I will be able to manage the blog some next week, but I will be able I think to post comments, but won't be able to post pictures until we return.

Friday Night at Matt's

June Harris To Attend

Just talked to June; she plans to leave Texas in the morning and hopes to make it in ime for supper tomorrow night at Matt's, but will definately make it to the homecoming.

Reminders

The time draws nigh. I will be leaving this afternoon heading for north Mississippi.

1. If possible, come join us for supper at Matt's on Friday night at six;

2. Please bring pictures, old annuals to the homecoming beginning at ten Saturday morning.

June Harris's Mother

June Harris had planned to come to Mississippi tomorrow; however, her mother had a heart attack this morning. Her mother seems to be doing well, but one of our guest of honor for the homecoming might not be able to attend.

I will bring a portable DVD player which has a slide show; however, all of the pictures, of course, have already been posted on this site. If you have od pictures, email them to me, and I'll try to make another slide show. Or, if you have pictures on a disk, bring it on Saturday, and we'll see if it works on my player.

Matt's on Friday

Some of us from out of town are planning to eat at Matt's Friday night at six and would like for those of you who are free to join us for an informal get together. Hope to see you Friday or Saturday or both.

For those who may not know, Matt's is located on the east side of Highway 6 just north of the school across from the old Mabry place.

Slide Show

If you have any pictures of Plantersville or Planersville folk on a disk, bring it to the homecoming, and I might be able to run a slide show. Bring any pictures or annuals for display as well.

For those of you new to the site, Amy is the daughter of Sharon Monts and Jimmy Jeffreys and related to both Carole and me. Sharon's mother was a Kelly as most of you know, and Jimmy is Carole's first cousin.

Sympathy to the family of Allen Smith. Services were at two today with burial in the Plantersville Cemetery. Allen was the son of Chester and Mabel Smith.

Bobbie called tonight and reported that she planned to bring her mother to the homecoming. Some of you may have known, I did not, that Mrs. Gooch broke her hip in February.

Newsletter

As a way of contacting those who are not on the internet, I am sending out a newsletter featuring information about the homecoming. Carole and I began publishing The Plantersville Connection about eight years ago when Tim Harris was visiting the Tupelo area from his home in Colorado and wanted to visit with his former classmates.

The only former teacher whose address I have is Mrs. Gooch; therefore, if you have addresses of other teachers, please send them to me.

Benjamin Farrar Monts and Sister

I borrowed another picture from Amy's new web site. I believe that Farrar Monts's sister died young from injuries received in a fire. Does anyone know what happened?

From Sandra Monts: "Tommy says that Earline Monts, Jiggs' sister, ran under the house when she got on fire and they couldn't get her out."

Just talked to the caterer for our event; lunch will be a barbecue with slaw, potato salad or French fries with peach cobbler for dessert. Price will be $7.50. Hope to break bread with you soon.

I talked to Bill Horton at Plantersville School today, and he is eager to show off the school, especially to those who us who attended many years ago.

Here's a picture from the Cecil's Park collection that Amy sent, that I don't think I have posted before.

Class of 1957

Gene and Wanda Williams at the Tupelo class of 57 reunion held back in May. I don't know the couple they are dining with, but the guy with the gray beard just above Wanda's head in the background is my good buddy Jerry Carr who furnished the picture.

The time draws near for the homecoming on the 28th. It starts at 10 in the morning, and a lunch will be served at noon. Bar-B-Que with the trimmings for $7.50 per plate. I am open for suggestions and offers of assistance. I won't be able to come to north Miss. until Friday, the 27th.

The award, see previous post, was for City Spirit for cities under 10,000.

Postings

Posting on this site have slowed down in recently days, as you may have noticed, due partly to the summer doldrums, but also to the fact that once again I am short of material. I hope during your busy summer activities, you will sent me pictures and/or stories for posting.

Plantersville Honored

As many of you know, the long time mayor of Clinton, where we live, is Rosemary Giben Altman who attended Lawhon and is friends with many from Plantersville. In today's Clinton News, Rosemary announced that Clinton one of the three awards given recently at the Mississippi Municipal League annual convention.

Cities are divided into over 10,000 and under 10,000 and there are three awards in each catagory: public safety, city spirit, and planning and economic development.

The story indicated that Plantersville won in city spirit for the under 10,000 group. Congratulations to Gloria and all who made this honor possible.

Happy July 4

Hope everyone has a happy and safe fourth of July. After the driest spring and early summer in recent memory in this area, it has rained for three straight days which threatens outside activities for the holiday, but we needed the rain.
