Second Annual Independence Day Parade and Celebration

Plantersville will celebrate its second annual Independence Day Parade and Celebration at Grant-Wichet Park beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 3rd.

Sign

I borrowed this picture from Gloria's web site; the sign is new and I assume is located at the intersection of Plantersville/Verona Road and Highway 45.

I'm sure Plantersville/Verona Road has a number now; and am equally certain many of you remember the old, scary bridge that used to be on that road, over Town Creek wasn't it?

City Hall

A picture of the recently renovated Plantersville City Hall borrowed from the new web site. If you have not visited the site, there's a link on this blog which is now functioning.

Benji Borden Article

Benji Borden, who recently moved back to Plantersville, has a feature in Wednesday's Daily Journal about his hometown.

Bottle Water

If you live in the Plantersville or Richmond area, the fire departments would appreciate donations of bottle water. If it is as hot and humid in north Mississippi as it is here, the need for water is critical. Please, if possible, drop off water to one or both of the fire departments.

Pictures

Several people have mentioned to me that they have pictures they would like to share on this blog; however, they don't have a scanner; if you trust the mail service, send me your pictures by mail, and I will scan them and return them the same day.

Charles and Carole

Charles Presson, who lives in Houston, Texas, graduated with Carole in 1960; however, he was unable to make the recent reunion. Charles stopped by for a visit with us this past weekend on his way to visit his brother in Meridian.

Some of you may remember Charles who when in high school worked at the Dairy Kreme in East Tupelo that his parents owned.

Plantersville Web Site

If you have not already done so, check out the town of Plantersville Web Site:

http://plantersvillems.com

There's lots of information and pictures including one of Plantersville school taken in 1906.

I've added a link to the site on this blog.

Plantersville Yard Sale

" First Annual Town-wide Yard Sale, Plantersville, Miss., Saturday, 5 June, beginning at daybreak. We'll sell anything that's not nailed down (and might sell that if we can find our crowbar). Make us an offer! The train has made us all crazy! A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Plantersville Youth Council. For more information, please call the Town Hall: 662-844-2012. Maps available there beginning this week."

Carly Time

I've been neglecting the blog for over a week since Carly's school ended about a week before most of the others in this area, and she and I and several of her friends from school have been having fun; we went to the zoo, to see Shrek, to the pool on several occasions and met a friend for a play day at McDonalds.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day.
