Aunt Grace at Mike's
This is a picture of Mike's Restaurant taken around 1945. I am about 90% certain that the woman in yellow near the front door is Grace Birmingham. Aunt Grace worked across the street; she commuted with Mr. Wright and others from Plantersville usually arriving in Tupelo before the store where she worked opened and she, most days, ate breakfast and lunch at Mike's.
Looking at the picture again, there are two women in yellow near the door. Aunt Grace is the one in the center behind a pole.

Three French Hens
Happy third day of Christmas. Wishing you faith, hope and charity for the new year.
We returned from Tupelo/ Plantersville late yesterday; as usual we had a wonderful time though I had the cold that a lot of folks seem to be enjoying during the holiday season.

Fireworks on Christmas Eve
June Harris sent the following inquiry:
"I want to know if people still do fireworks on Christmas Eve in Mississippi. We always did when I was there, but we're the only people I know who did that. By only people, I mean, us folks in Northeastern Mississippi. I don't recall ever doing fireworks for Fourth of July, but they were a must for Christmas Eve. Roman candles, the whole deal."
George responds: If I recall correctly, Roy Partlow's store's parking lot was ablaze with fireworks on Christmas Eve and maybe even the weeks leading up to Christmas. I, also, think I received fireworks along with fruit and candy from Santa.
June's question brings back memories of the activity on Christmas Eve at Mr. Roy's store next door to us. Customers, mostly men, carried out boxes of fruit and candy and other goodies. I even recall a time, probably 1947 or 48, when many, if not most, of those boxes were loaded onto wagons pulled by horses or mules.

Post Thanksgiving
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We spent the day, as we have for the past fifteen years or so, in Pontotoc at the home of Paul and Laney Sims. Tip, that's what we call him, is, as many of you may know, the pastor of First Baptist in Nettleton.

Plantersville Pastors
First Baptist Plantersville Children
Brother Danny's wife, Karen, send this picture with these comments: "I am enclosing attaching a picture of some members of the childrens handbell choir who shopped and filled 11 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. The boxes will be shipped to under privileged children around the world.
Just a note for you, the Tinker Bells were the first handbell group we started with 2-3 grade girls. We have started a second group, "The Joyful Noise" with 1-3 grade boys and girls. The two groups combined become "The Praise Players." The Praise Players will be playing the prelude and postlude for the Community Thanksgiving Service this Sunday night at New Zion Baptist Church."
Identified left to right: Katelynn Wood, Hunter Garrett, Reayanna Gardner, Morgan Clark, Sarah Roper, Selena Lyle, Elisa Garcia and Samantha Chaney.
