Hardin's Bakery

My mother worked in the office at Hardin's Bakery for over twenty years. One of the perks of working in a bakery is that she brought home a fresh loaf of bread every day and rolls on Wednesday. Carole still complains because I won't eat loaf bread if it is more than a couple of days old.

When mother first went to work for Hardins, the bakery was located on Main Street on the block between Broadway and Green Streets. In addition to office work, she sold cakes and cookies and other goodies. Then the bakery moved to north Gloster Street and no longer sold cakes and cookies though you could go to the back of the bakery and buy a hot loaf of unsliced bread.
